Do Families Still Need Us? More on TennCares New Diaper Benefit Program

The long-awaited diaper benefit program, introduced by Governor Bill Lee in 2022, has officially launched, bringing much-needed relief to low-income families across Tennessee.

This program provides 100 diapers each month to families with children under 2 who are enrolled in TennCare. Eligible families can collect their diapers free of charge at participating pharmacies, automatically qualifying for the benefit without any additional steps.

The initiative is designed to ease financial burdens, support child health, and enhance overall well-being by addressing a critical need for low-income families—diapers. However, this raises questions about the future for Nash Diaper and our role moving forward.

Since the program’s start on August 7th, we've seen a surge in phone calls and web traffic. While we are not a designated pickup location or provider, the need for diapers extends beyond just low-income households. Families across the board are seeking assistance more than ever.

Our distribution numbers continue to climb, with close to 400,000 diapers being distributed each month, we’re on track to reach 4 million by year’s end. While we wish diaper need in middle Tennessee was lower and less families were struggling to afford diapers, the demand in Middle Tennessee remains high. We are committed to bridging the gap and supporting families, regardless of their income, and will continue to meet their needs as best as we can.
